I said: This is an authentic isnād according to the criteria of Muslim. (al-fīʾah): originally means a group or assembly of people, and the division that stays behind the army, so if they face fear or defeat, they seek refuge with them, as mentioned in "al-Nihāyah".

"Fast when you see it, and break your fast when you see it. If clouds, darkness, or dust obscure it from you, then complete the count. Do not anticipate the month, and do not connect Ramadan with a day from Shaʿbān." It was narrated by Abū ʿUbayd in "Gharīb al-Ḥadīth" (59/1-2): Ibn Abī ʿAdī narrated to us from Ḥātim ibn Abī Ṣaghīrah from Simāk ibn Ḥarb from ʿIkrimah from Ibn ʿAbbās from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) with it. I said: This isnād is good, its men are all trustworthy, the men of Muslim, and there is slight criticism regarding Simāk. The ḥadīth was also narrated by al-Nasāʾī (1/306-307): Qutaybah informed us, he said: Ibn Abī ʿAdī narrated it without the phrase: "or dust." Likewise, it was narrated by Aḥmad (1/226) through the route of Ismāʿīl (ibn Abī ʿUlayyah): Ḥātim ibn Abī Ṣaghīrah informed us with it. And (1/258) through the route of Zāʾidah from Simāk with a similar narration. It was also narrated by al-Bayhaqī (4/207). The ḥadīth has other routes from Ibn ʿAbbās, and supporting evidences which I have detailed in "al-Irwāʾ" under ḥadīth (902) and "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd" (2015 and 2016). (al-habwah): means dust: and it is said for fine particles of soil when they rise: habā yahbū hubū.
