- "Al-Zubayr is the son of my aunt and my disciple among my community." It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/314): Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, Hishām ibn ʿUrwah narrated from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir from Jābir who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim. However, Ḥammād ibn Zayd contradicted it, as Aḥmad said (4/4): Yūnus narrated to us, Ḥammād—meaning ibn Zayd—narrated from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah from his father from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Every prophet has a disciple, and my disciple is al-Zubayr, the son of my aunt." And Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb contradicted him, saying: Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated it, but it is mursal and does not include Ibn al-Zubayr. It was recorded by Aḥmad. Yaḥyá and Wakīʿ also followed him in narrating from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah as mursal. It was also recorded by Aḥmad: And Yūnus ibn Bukayr contradicted all of them, narrating from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah from his father from al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām as marfūʿ with the wording: "Indeed, every prophet has a disciple, and indeed my disciple is al-Zubayr." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (3/362) who said: "Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: There is a consideration in this, as Yūnus ibn Bukayr was not relied upon by al-Bukhārī, who only recorded from him in a suspended manner, and in "al-Taqrīb": "He makes mistakes."
