I said: And the rest of its narrators are reliable, except for a weakness in Hishām ibn ʿAmmār. ʿĪsá ibn Yūnus al-Ramlī contradicted him and said: Muḥammad ibn Shuʿayb ibn Shābūr narrated to us with the wording: "Guarding for a night in the cause of Allāh is better than a man fasting and praying among his family for a thousand years, a year being three hundred and sixty days, and a day like a thousand years." It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (2/176). However, the first wording is preserved with supporting evidence, including from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr as a marfūʿ report. It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/177) from Ibn Lahīʿah: Yazīd ibn Abī Ḥabīb narrated to us from Suwayd ibn Qays from him. This isnād is acceptable for supporting evidence; its narrators are reliable, except that Ibn Lahīʿah had poor memory. And also from Salmān as a marfūʿ report. It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/440) from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq from Jamīl ibn Abī Maymūnah from (Ibn) Abī Zakarīyā al-Khuzāʿī from him, then recorded (5/441) from the route of Ibn Thābit ibn Thawbān who narrated to me from Ḥassān ibn ʿAṭiyyah from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Zakarīyā from a man from Salmān. In the first route, there is the ʿanʿanah of Ibn Isḥāq. Jamīl ibn Abī Maymūnah was mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim (1/1/519) with a narration from al-Layth ibn Saʿd about him, and he did not mention any criticism or endorsement. The other route is good except for the man who was not named, and perhaps he is Sharḥabīl ibn al-Ṣimṭ, as it was recorded by Muslim (6/51) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (6178) from two routes from him from Salmān. Al-Ṭabarānī also recorded it (6064, 6077, and 6134) from other routes from Salmān.
