I said: Al-Ḥākim and al-Dhahabī remained silent about it, and there is weakness in it; Rabāḥ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and Abū Thafāl, whose name is Thumāmah ibn Wāʾil, are both unknown. The ḥāfiẓ said about each of them: "Acceptable." Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (4/18): "It was narrated by Aḥmad and includes Abū Thafāl, about whom al-Bukhārī said: there is a concern." Then he mentioned a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of Kabīrah bint Sufyān in a similar marfūʿ form. It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr," and it includes Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān ibn Masmūl, who is weak. I said: There is a difference of opinion about him, and he was deemed trustworthy by Ibn Ḥibbān and Ibn Shāhīn, so someone like him can be used as supporting evidence, if Allāh wills. Thus, the ḥadīth is ḥasan, and Allāh knows best. It is also supported by what is with al-Ṭabarānī (no. 11201) from the route of Ḥamzah al-Naṣībī from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Treat the goats well... and indeed the blood of a white sheep is greater in the sight of Allāh than the blood of two black ones." But this al-Naṣībī, the ḥāfiẓ said: "Abandoned, accused of fabricating." So he is not used as evidence, and what has been previously mentioned is sufficient. (ʿAfrāʾ) is from ʿafrah: whiteness that is not bright.
