in "Ḥilyah" by Nuʿaym (1/229) through the route of Masrūq from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ." It is also with al-Bukhārī (2/445) and Muslim, and Aḥmad (2/189 and 195) from this route with the wording: "Recite the Qurʾān..." It has another route recorded by al-Ḥākim (3/526-527) and authenticated through the route of Mujāhid from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr with it. It has a supporting narration recorded by al-Ḥākim also (3/225) from the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd. And another one with Ibn ʿAdī (99/2) from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar.

"Modesty is part of faith, and the most modest of my community is ʿUthmān." Narrated by Ibn ʿAsākir (11/97/1) from Abū ʿAbd al-Malik Marwān ibn Muḥammad ibn Khālid al-ʿUthmānī who informed us from my grandfather from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Zinād from his father from al-Aʿraj from Abū Hurayrah as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. I said: And this Abū ʿAbd al-Malik, I did not find a biography for him. As for his grandfather, he is—Allāh knows best—ʿUthmān ibn Khālid ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Walīd ibn ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān al-Umawī al-Madanī. He narrated from Ibn Abī al-Zinād and others. And from him, his son Muḥammad Abū Marwān al-ʿUthmānī, al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "His ḥadīth is abandoned." He is among the teachers of Ibn Mājah, and he narrated two ḥadīths with this isnād on the virtue of ʿUthmān, and one of them is included in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" (2291)
