I said: This is a sound isnād according to the criteria of al-Shaykhayn, and it has been criticized in a way that does not undermine it. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said after it: "Abū Zurʿah said: This ḥadīth is mawqūf, and only ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn al-Mukhtār raises it, and there is no harm in his ḥadīth." I said: He is reliable and cited in "al-Ṣaḥīḥayn." He was contradicted by someone of equal or lesser memory, namely Maʿmar from Ayyūb from ʿIkrimah, who reported it as mawqūf. It was also extracted by al-Ṭabarānī (11846). I said: This isnād is also sound with minor criticism regarding Maʿmar, and the addition of a reliable narrator is accepted in cases like ours. And Allāh knows best. Al-Ḍiyāʾ also extracted the marfūʿ version in "al-Mukhtārah" (64/35/2) from the path of al-Ṭabarānī. Know that the ḥadīth does not mean that the snakes existing now are from the transformed jinn, but rather that the jinn were transformed into snakes, just as the Jews were transformed into apes and pigs. However, they did not reproduce, as in the authentic ḥadīth: "Indeed, Allāh did not make progeny or offspring for the transformed, and there were apes and pigs before that." Its extraction will come under number (2264), if Allāh wills.

- "The snake is a transgressor, the scorpion is a transgressor, the mouse is a transgressor, and the crow is a transgressor."
