I was a man whom Allāh had granted a good voice for reciting the Qurʾān, so ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd would send for me, and I would recite to him. He said, when I finished my recitation, he would say: "Give us more of this, for I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say," and he mentioned it. It is in al-Ṭabarānī's "Muʿjam" (no. 10023) through the route of ʿAbd al-Ghaffār, who is also known as Abū Ṣāliḥ al-Ḥarrānī. Ibn ʿAdī also narrated it (271/1) through the route of Qays ibn al-Rabīʿ from Ḥammād ibn Abī Sulaymān. I said: This isnād is good; its routes revolve around Ḥammād ibn Abī Sulaymān, who is truthful but has mistakes as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb," and those above him are from the men of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim]. It is supported by the ḥadīth of al-Barāʾ: "Beautify the Qurʾān with your voices." It is found in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abū Dāwūd" (1320).

- "When he saw the new moon, he would say: 'O Allāh, bring it over us with security and faith, and safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allāh.'" Narrated by al-Tirmidhī (2/256), al-Ḥākim (4/285), Aḥmad (1/162), Abū Yaʿlá (1/191), and from him by Ibn al-Sunnī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (635), al-Dārimī (2/4), al-ʿUqaylī (182), Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim in "al-Sunnah" (376), and al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" (1/279) from Sulaymān ibn Sufyān who said: Bilāl ibn Yaḥyá ibn Ṭalḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh narrated to me from his father from his grandfather in a marfūʿ form. Al-Tirmidhī said: "It is ḥasan gharīb," and al-ʿUqaylī said about this Sulaymān: "He is not followed in it," and it is narrated from Ibn Maʿīn that he is not trustworthy. Then al-ʿUqaylī said:
