I said: This Abū Ḥumayd is unknown, and it is said he is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Saʿd al-Muqaʿid, whom al-Nasāʾī deemed trustworthy, and Allāh knows best. It was narrated by Ibn Abī al-ʿIshrīn from al-Awzāʿī from al-Zuhrī from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from Abū Hurayrah in a shortened form with the wording: "You will be purified as dates are purified from their stalks." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (1833). I said: Ibn Abī al-ʿIshrīn's name is ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Ḥabīb, and al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "Truthful, but he sometimes errs." I said: I fear that his error is in his isnād when he said: Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, instead of Abū Ḥumayd as in the narration of Yūnus ibn Yazīd, who is trustworthy. And Allāh knows best. In summary, the ḥadīth of the chapter is good with the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, and not vice versa because the witness contains what is not in the witnessed for, so reflect.

"Marry, for I will boast of your numbers before the nations on the Day of Resurrection, and do not be like the monasticism of the Christians." It was recorded by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan al-Kubrā" (7/78) via Ibn ʿAdī, and this is in "al-Kāmil" (folio 329/1) from Muḥammad ibn Thābit al-Baṣrī from Abū Ghālib from Abū Umāmah as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. I said: And this isnād is good in supporting evidence, for Muḥammad ibn Thābit al-Baṣrī, who is al-ʿAbdī, was said by al-Ḥāfiẓ: "Truthful, but his ḥadīth is soft."
