"The heart of the son of Adam is more changeable than a pot when it boils." It was narrated by Aḥmad (4/4): Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim narrated to us, al-Faraj narrated to us, Sulaymān ibn Sulaym narrated: al-Miqdād ibn al-Aswad said: "I do not speak well or ill of a man until I see what he ends with - meaning - after something I heard from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). It was said: And what did you hear? He said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: " and he mentioned it. I said: And this isnād is interrupted, and its men are trustworthy except for al-Faraj, who is Ibn Faḍālah, as he is weak, but he has been followed up as will be mentioned, and it was narrated from him by Baqiyyah who added to its isnād and said: al-Faraj ibn Faḍālah narrated to us, Sulaymān ibn Sulaym narrated to me from Yaḥyá ibn Jābir from al-Miqdād ibn al-Aswad. It was narrated by al-Muḥāmalī in the fourth of "al-Amālī" (50/2) and Abū Muḥammad al-Ṭāmidī in "al-Fawāʾid" (108-109) and said: "And this is a Shāmī isnād, and al-Faraj ibn Faḍālah is criticized." I said: And Baqiyyah has another isnād in it, and he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sālim narrated to us from Abū Salamah Sulaymān ibn Sulaym from Ibn Jubayr from his father from al-Miqdād. It was narrated by Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim in "al-Sunnah" (no. 226 - my verification) and al-Qaḍāʿī (Q 108/2). I said: And its isnād is authentic, all its men are trustworthy, and Baqiyyah explicitly stated it was narrated, so we are safe from his tadlīs. And he was not alone in this, for ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ said: Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to me from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr. It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (2/289) and Abū al-Qāsim al-Ḥanāʾī in "the third of al-Fawāʾid" (Q 81/2) and Ibn Baṭṭah in "al-Ibānah" (4/18/2) and Ibn ʿAsākir in "al-Tārīkh" (17/76/1), and al-Ḥākim said:
