and it had reached me before meeting him and reviewing his message that one of the doctors in (Kuwait) weakens this ḥadīth. I was confirmed of this when I received a letter from one of the brothers there, who pointed out my inclusion of the ḥadīth in "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr" with the numbers (2453, 2454, 2745, and 7754) because the aforementioned doctor had weakened it, and he was surprised by my authentication of it! The brother mentioned hopes that I would reconsider the verification of this ḥadīth, and I have done so as a precaution, perhaps he will find in it what indicates the doctor's error, and his own error in relying on him and not being aware of the difference between a novice in this science and one who is well-versed in it. This is an oversight that has afflicted many people who follow anyone who writes in this field, without having a firm footing in it. And Allāh is the one whose help is sought. Know, dear reader, that it is known that the ḥadīth is something the Shīʿah use as evidence, and they frequently speak of it, to the point that Ahl al-Sunnah might imagine they are correct in that, but they are all mistaken in this, and its clarification is from two aspects: The first: that what is meant by the ḥadīth in his saying (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): "my family" is more than what the Shīʿah intend, and Ahl al-Sunnah do not reject it; rather, they adhere to it, which is that the family among them are his household (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and this is clarified in some of its paths, like the ḥadīth of the translation: "my family are my household." And his household originally are "his wives (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), among them the truthful ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā), as is explicit in His saying, the Exalted, in (al-Aḥzāb): *"Allāh only wishes to remove impurity from you, O people of the household, and to purify you thoroughly."* This is evidenced by the verse before it and the one after it: *"O wives of the Prophet, you are not like any other women, if you fear Allāh, then do not be soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speech. And stay in your houses and do not display yourselves like the display of the former times of ignorance. And establish prayer and give zakāh and obey Allāh and His Messenger. Allāh only wishes to remove impurity from you, O people of the household, and to purify you thoroughly. And remember what is recited in your houses of the verses of Allāh and wisdom. Indeed, Allāh is ever Subtle and Acquainted."* The Shīʿah's specification of (the people of the household) in the verse to ʿAlī, Fāṭimah, al-Ḥasan, and al-Ḥusayn (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhum) without his wives (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) is from their distortion of the verses of Allāh, the Exalted, in support of their desires, as is explained in its place, and the ḥadīth of the cloak and what is similar to it is the utmost of what is in it
