and the ḥadīth has a corroborating narration from Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushani, elevated with a similar weak isnād, which I have documented in "al-Mishkāt" (5144).

"Indeed, among you are men whom we entrust to their faith, among them is Furāt ibn Ḥayyān." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (4/1/128), Abū Dāwūd (2652), al-Ḥākim (2/115), al-Bayhaqī (9/147), Aḥmad (4/336), and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (2/18) from Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Abū Isḥāq, from Ḥārithah ibn Muḍarrib, from Furāt ibn Ḥayyān "that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) ordered his killing, as he was a spy for Abū Sufyān and an ally of a man from the Anṣār. He passed by a gathering of the Anṣār and said: I am a Muslim. A man from the Anṣār said: O Messenger of Allāh, he says: I am a Muslim." The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) then said... and al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the criteria of al-Shaykhayn." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him! This is what they said! However, Ḥārithah ibn Muḍarrib was not recorded by al-Shaykhayn, but al-Bukhārī narrated from him in "al-Adab al-Mufrad," and he is considered reliable. He was followed by Isrāʾīl from Abū Isḥāq with the same isnād, except that he said: "from some of the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)" without naming him, and he added: "men to whom I give nothing." I say: There is a doubt regarding the authenticity of this addition in my view because al-Thawrī is the most reliable in narrating from Abū Isḥāq, who is al-Sabīʿī, so the addition by Isrāʾīl—who is the son of Yūnus ibn Abī Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī—is not accepted. It is likely that he received it from his grandfather after he became confused, and this is the apparent case, whereas al-Thawrī narrated from him before the confusion. He was also followed by Zakarīyā ibn Abī Zāʾidah from Abū Isḥāq with the same isnād and added the addition in the wording:
