I said: This isnād is weak. ʿAmr ibn Dīnār is weak, as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb" and elsewhere. However, the ḥadīth has supporting evidence that attests to its authenticity. The first [supporting evidence]: from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "The food of two is sufficient for three, and the food of three is sufficient for four." It was recorded by Mālik (2/928/20), and from him by al-Bukhārī (3/496), as well as Muslim (6/132) and al-Tirmidhī (1/335), who said: "ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ" from Mālik, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Aʿraj, from him with it. Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah also followed him from Abū al-Zinād with it. It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/244). Then he recorded it (2/407) from ʿAlī ibn Zayd from someone who heard Abū Hurayrah. The second [supporting evidence]: from Jābir, reported as marfūʿ with the wording: "The food of one is sufficient for two, the food of two is sufficient for four, and the food of four is sufficient for eight." It was recorded by Muslim, Ibn Mājah (3254), al-Dārimī (2/100), and Aḥmad (3/301 and 382) from Abū al-Zubayr, who heard Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh. Abū Sufyān also followed him from Jābir with it. It was recorded by Muslim, al-Tirmidhī, and Aḥmad (3/301 and 315). The third [supporting evidence]: from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, reported as marfūʿ with the wording: "The food of two is sufficient for four, and the food of four is sufficient for eight, so gather upon it, and do not disperse from it."
