the righteous; when they did that, they perished. This is the case with many storytellers of our time, whose sermons mostly revolve around Isra'iliyyat, emotional tales, and Sufi narratives. We ask Allāh for well-being.

- "Before the Hour, there will be chaos." They asked, "What is chaos?" He said, "Killing. It is not that you will kill the polytheists, but rather you will kill each other (until a man kills his neighbor, his brother, his uncle, and his cousin)." They asked, "Will we have our minds with us on that day?" He said, "The minds of the people of that time will be taken away, and they will be replaced by insignificant people, most of whom will think they are upon something, but they are upon nothing." It was recorded by Aḥmad (4/391-392 and 414) through the chain of ʿAlī ibn Zayd from Ḥaṭṭān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Raqāshī from Abū Mūsá al-Ashʿarī that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Abū Mūsá said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul, I do not find for myself or for you a way out of it if it reaches me and you—except that we leave it as we entered it, without having shed blood or taken wealth." I said: This chain is weak; ʿAlī ibn Zayd, who is Ibn Judʿān, is not relied upon, but he is not alone in narrating it. It was also recorded by Aḥmad (4/406) and Ibn Mājah (3959) through two chains from al-Ḥasan: Usayd ibn al-Mutashammis narrated to us, saying: Abū Mūsá narrated to us, the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) narrated to us, and he mentioned it, including the addition between the parentheses. I said: This chain is authentic; its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], except for Usayd, who is trustworthy as the ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb." It was also recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (1870) through the chain of Huzayl ibn Sharḥabīl from Abū Mūsá al-Ashʿarī, raised [to the Prophet], with the wording: "Before the Hour, there will be tribulations like pieces of a dark night, in which a man will wake up a believer..
