"Do not relate a dream except to a scholar or a sincere advisor." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (2/45) and al-Dārimī (2/126) from Yazīd ibn Zurayʿ, who narrated to us from Saʿīd, from Qatādah, from Ibn Sīrīn, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he used to say this, and he mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ." I say: Its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim]. Hishām ibn Ḥassān corroborated it from Ibn Sīrīn with the same. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Ṣaghīr" (p. 187) and Abū al-Shaykh in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (281) from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAmr al-Bajalī, who narrated to us from Mubārak ibn Faḍālah, from Hishām ibn Ḥassān. I say: This isnād is acceptable for corroboration, as Hishām is trustworthy and relied upon in the two Ṣaḥīḥs, though those below him are weak. The ḥadīth has also come through another route from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) with an addition that clarifies the reason for this prohibition: "Indeed, a dream falls upon what it is interpreted as, and it is like a man who raises his foot, waiting to place it down. So if one of you sees a dream, let him not relate it except to a sincere advisor or a scholar."

It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/391) through the route of ʿAbd al-Razzāq, who informed us from Maʿmar, from Ayyūb, from Abū Qilābah, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said this, and he mentioned it. And he said: "Its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ."
