"Indeed, when Allāh sends His punishment upon the people deserving of His wrath, and among them are the righteous, they are afflicted along with them, then they will be resurrected according to their intentions." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (1846) from ʿAmr ibn ʿUthmān al-Raqī, who said: Zuhayr ibn Muʿāwiyah narrated to us from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah from his father from ʿĀʾishah, who said: "I said: O Messenger of Allāh, when Allāh sends His punishment upon the people of the earth and among them are the righteous, will they perish with their destruction? He said: "And he mentioned it." I said: This isnād is weak because of al-Raqī, as he is weak, as stated by al-Ḥāfiẓ, and al-Dhahabī included him in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" and said: "al-Nasāʾī and others said: He is abandoned." I said: However, the ḥadīth is in "Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim" (8/168) and "al-Musnad" (6/259) through other chains from ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā) with a different wording, and the wording of Muslim is: "Amazing! People from my nation will head towards the House, with a man from Quraysh who has sought refuge in the House, until when they are in the desert, they will be swallowed by the earth. We said: O Messenger of Allāh: The path gathers people. He said: Yes, among them are the discerning, the compelled, and the traveler, they will perish in one destruction, but they will be resurrected in different states, Allāh will resurrect them according to their intentions." It was also recorded by al-Bukhārī (4/271) and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (5/11) through another chain from ʿĀʾishah, raised to the Prophet, with a similar wording: "An army will invade the Kaʿbah, and when they are in a desert land..." the ḥadīth. There is a supporting narration from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, raised to the Prophet, with the wording: "When Allāh intends to punish a people, the punishment affects all those among them, then they will be resurrected according to their deeds."
