"People will soon begin to question among themselves until one of them says: 'This is Allāh who created the creation, so who created Allāh?' When they say that, say: * 'He is Allāh, [who is] One, Allāh, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent.' * Then let one of you spit lightly to his left three times and seek refuge from Satan." (Narrated by Abū Hurayrah): It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (4732) and Ibn al-Sunnī (621) from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, who said: ʿUtbah ibn Muslim, the client of Banū Tamīm, narrated to me from Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from him, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say this, and he mentioned it. I said: This chain is good, its narrators are trustworthy, and Ibn Isḥāq explicitly stated the narration, thus we are safe from his tadlīs [concealment]. ʿUmar ibn Abī Salamah also narrated it from his father up to the saying: "So who created Allāh?" He said: Abū Hurayrah said: By Allāh, I was sitting one day when a man from the people of Iraq said to me: 'This is Allāh, our Creator, so who created Allāh?' Abū Hurayrah said: I put my fingers in my ears and then shouted, saying: Allāh and His Messenger have spoken the truth (He is Allāh, the One, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nor is there to Him any equivalent). It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/387) and its narrators are trustworthy except for this ʿUmar, as he is weak. He also has another route with him (2/539) from Jaʿfar, who narrated to us from Yazīd ibn al-Aṣam from Abū Hurayrah with the same elevated [chain] as the previous one. Yazīd said: Najmah ibn Ṣubaygh al-Sulamī narrated to me that he saw a group who came to Abū Hurayrah and asked him about that. He said: Allāhu Akbar, my close friend did not narrate anything to me except that I have seen it while I was waiting for it. Jaʿfar said: It reached me that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: If people ask you about this, say: Allāh is before everything, and Allāh created everything,
