and its narrators are those of the authentic collections, as stated by al-Haythamī (3/166), so it is authentic except for the ʿanʿanah of Ḥabīb, for he is a mudallis. It is also reported (10604) through the route of ʿAṭiyyah who said: A young man asked Ibn ʿAbbās: Can he kiss while fasting? He said: No. Then an elder came and said: Can he kiss while fasting? He said: Yes. The young man said: I asked you if I could kiss while fasting, and you said: No. And this one asked you: Can he kiss while fasting? And you said: Yes. So how is it permissible for him what is forbidden for me, while we are on the same religion? Ibn ʿAbbās replied to him: The veins of the testicles are connected to the nose, so when the nose smells, the member is stimulated, and when the member is stimulated, it calls to something greater than that. The elder has more control over his desires. This was after ʿAbdullāh had lost his sight, and a woman was behind him. It was said: O Ibn ʿAbbās, there is a woman behind you! He said: Woe to you, what a poor companion of people you are. I said: And ʿAṭiyyah - who is al-ʿAwfī - is weak and a mudallis.
- "Indeed, al-Salām is one of the names of Allāh which He placed on earth, so spread it among you. For when a man greets a people with salām and they respond to him, he has a degree of superiority over them because he reminded them. If they do not respond to him, one who is better and purer than them will respond to him." It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī (no. 10391) from Sufyān ibn Bishr, who informed us from Ayyūb ibn Jābir, from al-Aʿmash, from Zayd ibn Wahb, from ʿAbdullāh in a marfūʿ manner. I said: I did not find a biography for Sufyān ibn Bishr. And Ayyūb ibn Jābir is weak, but he has been followed up by more than one [narrator]
