It was also recorded by Aḥmad (3/29). There are also narrations from Abū Dharr and others on this topic; refer to "al-Majmaʿ" if you wish. The ḥadīth of Abū Dharr was recorded by al-Ṭayālisī in his "Musnad" (480): Shuʿbah narrated to us, saying: al-Aʿmash informed us, saying: I heard Mundhir al-Thawrī narrating from his companions from Abū Dharr, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saw two sheep butting heads, and said: "O Abū Dharr, do you know why they are butting heads?" I said: No. He said: "But your Lord knows, and He will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection." I say: This isnād is authentic; its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], except for the companions of Mundhir—who is Ibn ʿAlāʾ al-Thawrī—as they were not named. However, this does not harm [the authenticity] because they are a group of the Followers, whose anonymity is compensated by their number, as al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Sakhāwī pointed out in contexts other than this ḥadīth. It was also recorded by Ibn Abī al-Dunyā: Abū Khaythamah narrated to us, Jareer narrated to us from al-Aʿmash with it.
"Every prophet has a basin, and they boast about which of them has the most people coming to it. I hope by Allāh that I will have the most people coming to it." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (1/1/44), al-Tirmidhī (3/299-300), and Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim as mentioned in "Nihāyat Ibn Kathīr" (1/351), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (6881) through the route of Saʿīd ibn Bashīr from Qatādah from al-Ḥasan from Samurah, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "This ḥadīth is gharīb (and in some copies: ḥasan gharīb), and al-Ashʿath ibn ʿAbd al-Malik narrated this ḥadīth from al-Ḥasan from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in a mursal form. And he did not mention it from Samurah, and this is more authentic." I say: What is in the first version, meaning the strangeness only, is closer to authenticity, and this is what he transmitted
