- "Walk in front of me, and leave my back for the angels." It was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (7/117) through the route of ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abān, who narrated to us from Sufyān, from al-Aswad ibn Qays al-ʿAbdī, from Nabīḥ Abū ʿAmr, from Jābir who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) went out and said to his companions: then he mentioned it, and said: "from what I have written from the ḥadīth of al-Thawrī except from this aspect." I said: And this Ibn Abān is abandoned, and Ibn Maʿīn and others declared him a liar as in "al-Taqrīb." There is a disagreement in its text, as Qabīṣah ibn ʿUqbah said: Sufyān narrated to us with the wording: "Whenever the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) went out of his house, we walked in front of him and left behind him for the angels."
