(Note): It appears in the original as: "And the best of the emigrants is the one who strives..." etc. It is clear what is meant, and perhaps the correct version is what is in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr" from the narration of al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" from Ibn ʿAmr in the wording: "...And the best of the believers in faith is the one with the best character, and the best of the emigrants is the one who abandons what Allāh has forbidden, and the best of jihad is the one who strives against his own self for the sake of Allāh." Al-Munāwī said: "And its isnād is good. Al-Haythamī mentioned it." And part of it has a corroborating mursal narration with an authentic isnād in the wording: "Islam is feeding food and speaking kindly, and faith is generosity and patience, and the best of Muslims in Islam is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe, and the best of believers in faith is the one with the best character, and the best of migration is the one who abandons what Allāh has forbidden him." It was narrated by Ibn Naṣr in "al-Ṣalāh" (143/2) from Ibn Shihāb from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr from his father ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was asked: What is Islam? He said: Feeding food... And this isnād is a sound mursal. Then he narrated it connected... from the path of Muḥammad ibn Dhakwān from ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr from ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah with it. But Muḥammad ibn Dhakwān, who is al-Jahḍamī al-Ṭāḥī, is weak. And from the path of Suwayd Abū Ḥātim: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr narrated to me from his father from his grandfather with it. And this Suwayd is also weak, so the correct version is the mursal. And it was narrated by al-Ḥākim (3/626) from the path of Bakr ibn Khunays from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr from his father from his grandfather as a marfūʿ narration with it, without mentioning food, speech, and migration, and instead mentioning: "The best of jihad is a word of justice in the presence of a tyrannical ruler."
