"the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came out to us one day as if bidding farewell, and said: I am Muḥammad, the unlettered Prophet, he said it three times, and there is no prophet after me. I have been given the openings of speech, its conclusions, and its comprehensiveness. I have been informed of the number of the keepers of Hell and the bearers of the Throne. I have been granted passage, and I have been forgiven, and my ummah has been forgiven. So listen and obey as long as I am among you. When I am taken away, adhere to the Book of Allāh, make lawful what it permits, and prohibit what it forbids." It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/172 and 212). Ibn Lahīʿah is weak, and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Murayj al-Khawlānī is unknown to me, and al-Ḥāfiẓ did not mention him in "Taʿjīl al-Manfaʿah," which is his criterion. Perhaps he does not exist, and he is merely a figment of Ibn Lahīʿah's imagination and poor memory, as he named him in another narration as ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Jubayr, who is a well-known trustworthy narrator from the men of Muslim. And Allāh knows best.
- "Worship Allāh as if you see Him, and be in this world as if you are a stranger or a traveler." It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/132) and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (6/115) through the route of al-Awzāʿī: ʿAbdah ibn Abī Lubābah informed me from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) took hold of part of my body and said: and he mentioned it. This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs. Ibn Abī Lubābah, Aḥmad said: "He met Ibn ʿUmar in al-Shām," as in "Tahdhīb al-Tahdhīb," and there is no disagreement reported in that regard. However, in "al-Fatḥ," it is said (11/195) after attributing the ḥadīth to al-Nasāʾī: "A narration from the men of the Ṣaḥīḥ, even though there is a difference of opinion regarding ʿAbdah's hearing from Ibn ʿUmar." Abū Nuʿaym said after it: "It was narrated by al-Firyābī from al-Awzāʿī from Mujāhid from Ibn ʿUmar similarly." I say: It is in al-Bukhārī through the route of al-Aʿmash who told me Mujāhid from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar with it, except for the statement: "Worship Allāh as if you see Him."
- "Worship Allāh as if you see Him, for if you do not see Him, then
