"whoever makes a mistake in his prayer, whether in three or four [units], let him complete it, for an addition is better than a deficiency." al-Ḥākim said: "This is an explained ḥadīth with a sound isnād." I say: It has a good isnād were it not for Makhūl's use of 'anʿanah, but he was not alone in narrating it, for Ismāʿīl ibn Muslim al-Makkī narrated it from al-Zuhrī from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh from Ibn ʿAbbās with it in a shortened form. It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī and Aḥmad (1/195) and al-Bayhaqī. Then al-Bayhaqī produced a strong supporting witness for it from the route of Jaʿfar: Saʿīd, meaning Ibn Abī ʿArūbah, informed us from Qatādah from Anas from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said: "If any of you is uncertain in his prayer and does not know whether he prayed two or three [units], let him discard the doubt and build upon certainty." He said: "This Jaʿfar is Ibn ʿAwn." I say: He is trustworthy from the men of the two Shaykhs, as are those above him, so the isnād is sound.

"If you travel in fertile land, give the animals their due or share, and if you travel in barren land, hasten with them, and travel by night, for the earth is traversed at night. And if you camp, do not camp on the roadside, for it is the abode of every creature." It was recorded by al-Bazzār (p. 113 - his additions) and al-Bayhaqī (5/256) in a shortened form from the route of Abū Jaʿfar al-Rāzī from al-Rabīʿ ibn Anas from Anas that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it and said: "We do not know it from Anas except from this route in its entirety, and some of it was narrated from al-Zuhrī from him."
