the man from the tribe of Juʿfī was not named, as you see, so he is unknown. Muḥammad ibn Yazīd, al-Bukhārī said: "I saw them unanimously agree on his weakness."

"Say: O Allāh, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, and provide for me" - he would gather his fingers except the thumb - "for these will gather for you your worldly life and the Hereafter." It was recorded by Muslim (8/71), Ibn Mājah (2/433), and Aḥmad (3/472 and 6/394) from the route of Yazīd ibn Hārūn from Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī from his father, that he heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when a man came to him and said: O Messenger of Allāh, how should I say when I ask my Lord? He said: and he mentioned it. The context is from Muslim, and Aḥmad said: "and guide me" instead of: "and grant me well-being." Likewise, ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād said from Abū Mālik with it. It was also recorded by Muslim and Aḥmad, except that he omitted both phrases entirely! Abū Muʿāwiyah combined them, narrating from Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī with the wording: "When a man embraced Islam, the Prophet ﷺ would teach him the prayer, then command him to supplicate with these words..." and he mentioned them as five. It has supporting evidence from the ḥadīth of Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ, similar and elevated. In it: "Say: O Allāh, forgive me..." and he mentioned the five, but one of its narrators, Mūsá al-Juhanī, in his narration from him, said: "As for (grant me well-being), I am uncertain, and I do not know." I said: the other narration did not hesitate in this phrase, and it is established in the routes of the first ḥadīth, so the preferred view is the narration of the five, and Allāh knows best. Al-Mundhirī erred in the ḥadīth of al-Ashjaʿī, as he mentioned it as a narration in the ḥadīth of Saʿd. See my commentary on this ḥadīth from "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Targhīb" number (14/7).
