"He used to drink in three breaths. When he brought the vessel close to his mouth, he mentioned the name of Allāh, and when he moved it away, he praised Allāh. He did this three times." This was recorded by al-Kharaʾiṭī in "Faḍīlat al-Shukr" (p. 129/2) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ" (p. 108/1 from the selections of al-Mizzī) through two chains from ʿAtīq ibn Yaʿqūb, who narrated to us from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad al-Darāwardī from Muḥammad ibn ʿAjlān from his father (the first does not mention: from his father) from Abū Hurayrah as a marfūʿ ḥadīth, and al-Ṭabarānī said: "ʿAtīq ibn Yaʿqūb al-Zubayrī is unique in narrating it." I say: Ibn Ḥibbān and al-Dāraquṭnī considered him reliable, and those above him are well-known reliable narrators, with minor criticism regarding Ibn ʿAjlān, so the isnād is good. Al-Haythamī said about the ḥadīth (5/81): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Awsaṭ,' and in it is ʿAtīq ibn Yaʿqūb, whom I do not know, and the rest of the men are those of the Ṣaḥīḥ." I say: His biography is in "al-Lisān," from which I took his authentication, and he also has a biography in "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (3/2/46). I have found a supporting narration with the wording: "When he drank from the vessel, he would breathe three breaths, praising Allāh in each breath and thanking Him in the last of them." It was narrated by Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī in "al-Fawāʾid" (111/2), al-Ṭabarānī (3/79/2), al-Mukhliṣ in "al-Fawāʾid al-Muntaqā" (6/67/1), al-ʿUqaylī (421), Ibn al-Sunnī (465), and Abū al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Naqūr in "al-Qirāʾah ʿalá al-Wazīr al-Raʾīs Abī al-Qāsim" (1/4/1-2), as well as Abū Bakr al-Abharī in "Juzʾ min al-Fawāʾid" (3/1), narrated to us by ʿĪsá (meaning Ibn Yūnus) from al-Muʿallá ibn ʿIrfān from Shaqīq ibn Salamah from Ibn Masʿūd as a marfūʿ ḥadīth
