"Narrated by Aḥmad and Abū Yaʿlá, and its isnād is good as previously mentioned, but the isnād of Aḥmad includes Jasr, who is weak." And it was mentioned previously (10/66): "Among the men of Abū Yaʿlá is Muḥtasib Abū ʿĀʾidh, who was deemed reliable by Ibn Ḥibbān and considered weak by Ibn ʿAdī, and the rest of the men are those of the authentic collections except for al-Faḍl ibn al-Ṣabāḥ, who is trustworthy." The ḥadīth has also been narrated through another chain with the wording "three" instead of "seven" from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, and Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Juhanī. 1 - As for the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar, al-Ṭayālisī said (1845): ʿUmrī narrated to us from Nāfiʿ who said: "A man came to Ibn ʿUmar and said: O Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, did you see the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) with your own eyes? He said: Yes. He said: And did you speak to him with your own tongues? He said: Yes. He said: And did you pledge allegiance to him with your own hands? He said: Yes. He said: Glad tidings to you, O Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān! He said: Shall I not tell you something I heard from him? I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: Glad tidings to those who see me and believe in me, and glad tidings to those who do not see me and believe in me three times." I say: This ʿUmrī is weak, but his ḥadīth is supported by what follows. 2 - As for the ḥadīth of Abū Saʿīd, it is narrated by Darrāj from Abū al-Haytham from him in a marfūʿ form. It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (2302), Aḥmad (3/71), and al-Khaṭīb in "al-Tārīkh" (4/91). 3 - As for the ḥadīth of Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Juhanī, it is narrated by Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq who said: Yazīd ibn Abī Ḥabīb narrated to me from Marthad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Yaznī from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Juhanī who said: "While we were with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), riders appeared. When he saw them, he said: 'They are from Kindah and Madhḥij.' When they reached him, they were men from Madhḥij. One of them approached to pledge allegiance to him. When he took his hand, he said: O Messenger of Allāh! What about those who see you, believe in you, and follow you, what will they have? He said: Glad tidings to him. Then he wiped his hand and left. Then the other came and took his hand to pledge allegiance. He said: O Messenger of Allāh! What about those who believe in you, follow you, and do not see you? He said: Glad tidings to him, then glad tidings to him, then glad tidings to him. Then he wiped his hand and left."
