it was recorded by Aḥmad (5/399), al-Tirmidhī, Ibn Ḥibbān (2193), and al-Ṭaḥāwī through the route of Sālim Abū al-ʿAlāʾ from him with the wording: "I do not know how long I will remain among you, so follow those who come after me," and he pointed to Abū Bakr and ʿUmar. Ibn Ḥibbān and Aḥmad added: "and be guided by the guidance of ʿAmmār, and accept what Ibn Masʿūd tells you." Aḥmad said: "and follow the guidance of ʿAmmār and the guidance of Ibn Umm ʿAbd." I say: This isnād is good; all its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim, except for Sālim Abū al-ʿAlāʾ, who is acceptable in ḥadīth as al-Ṭaḥāwī said. Ibn Ḥibbān and al-ʿAjlī declared him trustworthy, while Ibn Maʿīn said: weak in ḥadīth. Abū Ḥātim said: his ḥadīth is written. 3 - As for the ḥadīth of Anas ibn Mālik, it is narrated by Ḥammād ibn Dalīl from ʿUmar ibn Nāfiʿ from ʿAmr ibn Hurm who said: I entered with Jābir ibn Zayd upon Anas ibn Mālik, and he said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. It was recorded by Ibn ʿAdī (75/1) through the route of Muslim ibn Ṣāliḥ Abū Rajāʾ from him with it. And through his route also from him: Ḥammād ibn Dalīl narrated to us from ʿAmr ibn Hurm from Ribʿī from Ḥudhayfah from the Prophet ﷺ similarly. He said: "And this Ḥammād is of few narrations, and this ḥadīth has two isnāds narrated for it by Ḥammād ibn Dalīl, and no one else narrates these two isnāds except Ḥammād ibn Dalīl." I say: al-Ḥāfiẓ said about him: "truthful, but they criticized him for his opinion." I say: this is not a criticism, so the ḥadīth has a good isnād, and he is a strong follower of Sālim Abū al-ʿAlāʾ from ʿAmr ibn Hurm from Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh from Ḥudhayfah, so the ḥadīth is authentic, and all praise is due to Allāh. 4 - As for the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar, it is narrated by Aḥmad ibn Ṣāliḥ ibn Waḍḍāḥ who informed us: Muḥammad ibn Qaṭan informed us: Dhāʾ al-Nūn informed us: Mālik ibn Anas from Nāfiʿ from him with it, without the second part
