"we entered upon Abū Ḥuṣayn to visit him, and with us was ʿĀṣim. Abū Ḥuṣayn said to ʿĀṣim: Do you remember a ḥadīth that al-Qāsim ibn Mukhaimarah narrated to us? He said: Yes, he narrated to us one day from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Abū Nuʿaym said: It was not narrated from Abū Ḥuṣayn except by Abū Bakr." I said: He is trustworthy, from the men of al-Bukhārī, and there is some criticism that does not harm [his credibility]. Ibn Ḥibbān has excellently defended and praised him in "al-Thiqāt," and those above him are trustworthy from the men of Muslim, so the isnād is authentic. ʿĀṣim ibn Abī al-Najūd narrated it from Khaythamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "When a servant is on a good path of worship and then falls ill, it is said to the angel assigned to him: Write for him the like of his deeds when he was free until I release him or take him unto Me." It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/203) and its isnād is good. Then it was also recorded by him (2/159, 194, and 198), al-Dārimī (2/316), al-Ḥākim (1/348), and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (7/249) through the route of al-Qāsim ibn Mukhaimarah from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr as a marfūʿ ḥadīth with the wording: "There is no Muslim afflicted with a calamity in his body except that Allāh commands the angels who guard him: Write for My servant every day and night of good deeds as he used to do, as long as he is confined in My restraint." The context is from al-Ḥākim, and he said: "Authentic according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs," and al-Dhahabī agreed, and it is as they said.

"Follow the two who come after me from my Companions, Abū Bakr and ʿUmar. Seek guidance with the guidance of ʿAmmār, and hold fast to the covenant of Ibn Masʿūd." It is narrated from the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān, Anas ibn Mālik, and ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar
