and its chain is authentic; its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim, except for Jablah ibn ʿAṭiyyah, who is trustworthy as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." The wording of Aḥmad and Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr is: "When Allāh intends good for a servant..." In the Musnad (4/96/99), there are two other paths from Muʿāwiyah; the narrators of the first are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim, except for Jarād, a man from Banī Tamīm, who is Jarād ibn Mujālid al-Ḍabbī. Abū Ḥātim said: there is no harm in him, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt." Thus, the isnād is ḥasan. From this perspective, al-Ṭaḥāwī also reported it (2/279). The other path has an authentic isnād according to the criteria of Muslim. (1) It has additional parts which will be mentioned. As for the ḥadīth of Ibn Ziyād mentioned earlier, it is in the wording: "Whomever Allāh wishes good for, He gives him understanding in the religion. I am only a distributor, and Allāh gives." Al-Ṭaḥāwī reported it in "al-Mushkil" (2/280) narrated by Abū Umayyah: narrated by Sarīj ibn al-Nuʿmān al-Jawharī, narrated by ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād from Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from Abū Hurayrah as marfūʿ. This isnād is ḥasan; all its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of al-Bukhārī, except for Abū Umayyah, whose name is Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Muslim al-Khuzāʿī al-Baghdādī, and he is truthful but errs, as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." Muslim also reported it (3/95) from the path of Yūnus from Ibn Shihāb, who said: Ḥumayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf told me, saying: I heard Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān while he was delivering a sermon, saying: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say, and he mentioned it, except that he said: "and Allāh gives." It is feared that the ḥadīth is from al-Zuhrī from Ḥumayd from Muʿāwiyah, but Abū Umayyah made it from al-Zuhrī from Saʿīd from Abū Hurayrah. This is supported by the fact that a group of trustworthy narrators reported it from ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād and ʿAbd al-Aʿlā ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā, both from al-Zuhrī from Saʿīd, without the phrase: "I am only... etc. And Allāh knows best
