"There is no supplication that a servant can make better than: O Allāh, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter." It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (2/435) through the route of Hishām, the companion of al-Dustuwāʾī, from Qatādah, from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Ziyād al-ʿAdawī, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Al-Būṣīrī said in "al-Zawāʾid" (232/2): "This isnād is authentic, its men are trustworthy. Al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Ziyād was mentioned by Ibn Ḥibbān in 'al-Thiqāt' and I have not seen anyone criticize him, and the rest of the men of the isnād are trustworthy." I say: There is a difference regarding it from Qatādah. Al-Dustuwāʾī narrated it from him in this way, and Hammām narrated from him, from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Ziyād, that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it in a mursal form. It was recorded by Aḥmad in "al-Zuhd" (255). ʿImrān al-Qaṭṭān said: from him, from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Ziyād, from Muʿādh ibn Jabal, that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. It was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (2/247) and he said: "None of the companions of Qatādah followed ʿImrān al-Qaṭṭān on it from Muʿādh ibn Jabal, and Hammām and others narrated from Qatādah from al-ʿAlāʾ in a mursal form, and Wakīʿ narrated from Hishām from Qatādah from al-ʿAlāʾ from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." The ḥadīth of Muʿādh was mentioned by al-Haythamī in "al-Majmaʿ" (10/175) and he said: "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī and its men are the men of 'al-Ṣaḥīḥ' except for al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Ziyād, who is trustworthy, but he did not hear from Muʿādh." He mentioned a supporting narration for it from the ḥadīth of Abū al-Dardāʾ, elevated, with the wording: "The servants have not asked for anything better than to be forgiven and granted well-being." It was narrated by al-Bazzār and its men are the men of "al-Ṣaḥīḥ."
