"and in its isnād is ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl, who is weak due to his poor memory."

"The messengers before me were commanded not to eat except what is pure and not to act except righteously." It was recorded by Aḥmad in "al-Zuhd" (p. 398) and al-Ḥākim (4/125-126) from Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Maryam from Ḍamrah ibn Ḥabīb from Umm ʿAbd Allāh, the sister of Shaddād ibn Aws. "that she sent to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) a cup of milk at the time of his breaking the fast, during a long day and intense heat. Her messenger returned to her: 'Where did you get this milk?' She said: 'Milk from my sheep.' Her messenger returned to her: 'Where did you get this sheep?' She said: 'I bought it with my own money.' So he drank. The next day, Umm ʿAbd Allāh came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, I sent you that milk out of compassion for you during the long day and intense heat, and you returned my messenger to me.' The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) then mentioned it." Al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī refuted this by saying: "I say: Ibn Abī Maryam is weak." I say: However, it is supported by the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, raised [to the Prophet], with the wording: "O people, indeed Allāh is pure and accepts only what is pure, and indeed Allāh commanded the believers with what He commanded the messengers, saying, *'O messengers, eat from the good things and act righteously. Indeed, I am Knowing of what you do.'*..." the ḥadīth. It was recorded by Muslim (3/85), al-Tirmidhī (2992), al-Dārimī (2/300), and Aḥmad (2/328) through the route of al-Fuḍayl ibn Marzūq from ʿAdī ibn Thābit from Abū Ḥāzim from him with it. I say: Its isnād is good, for al-Fuḍayl ibn Marzūq is truthful but makes mistakes, as al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb".
