"he indicated its good status, and it is as he said, or even higher, as there is no criticized narrator among its transmitters." The wording referred to also includes this sentence and is closer to this narration of Ibn ʿUmar.

"O Sāriyah, the mountain, O Sāriyah, the mountain." It was narrated by Abū Bakr ibn Khallād in "al-Fawāʾid" (1/215/2): Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah told us, Aḥmad ibn Yūnus told us, Ayyūb ibn Khawṭ told us from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sarrāj from Nāfiʿ that ʿUmar sent a detachment and appointed over them a man called Sāriyah. While ʿUmar was delivering the khuṭbah on Friday, he said: and mentioned it. They found that Sāriyah had attacked the mountain at that very hour on Friday, and there was a month's journey between them. I say: Ayyūb ibn Khawṭ is abandoned as stated in "al-Taqrīb." However, it was narrated by Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī in "al-Arbaʿīn al-Ṣūfiyyah" (3/2) and al-Bayhaqī in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (2/181/1 - Manuscript of Aleppo) through chains from Ibn Wahb, who informed me, Yaḥyá ibn Ayyūb from Ibn ʿAjlān from Nāfiʿ with a similar narration. Then the messenger of the army arrived, and ʿUmar asked him, and he said: O Commander of the Faithful, we were defeated, and while we were in that state, we heard a caller: O Sāriyah, the mountain three times, so we leaned our backs against the mountain, and Allāh defeated them. It was said to ʿUmar: You were the one shouting that. Then Ibn Kathīr said: "This isnād is good and sound." " يا سارية الجبل، يا سارية الجبل ". رواه أبو بكر بن خلاد في " الفوائد " (١ / ٢١٥ / ٢) : حدثنا محمد بن عثمان بن أبي شيبة حدثنا أحمد بن يونس حدثنا أيوب بن خوط عن عبد الرحمن السراج عن نافع أن عمر بعث سرية فاستعمل عليهم رجلا يقال له سارية، فبينما عمر يخطب يوم الجمعة فقال: فذكره. فوجدوا سارية قد أغار إلى الجبل في تلك الساعة يوم الجمعة وبينهما مسيرة شهر. قلت: وأيوب بن خوط متروك كما في " التقريب ". لكن رواه أبو عبد الرحمن السلمي في " الأربعين الصوفية " (٣ / ٢) والبيهقي في " دلائل النبوة " (٢ / ١٨١ / ١ - مخطوطة حلب) من طرق عن ابن وهب أخبرني يحيى بن أيوب عن ابن عجلان عن نافع به نحوه. ومن هذا الوجه رواه ابن عساكر (٧ / ٦ / ١) و (١٣ / ٦٣ / ٢) والضياء في " المنتقى من مسموعاته بمرو " (٢٨ - ٢٩) إلا أنهما قالا: عن نافع عن ابن عمر أن عمر ... وزادا في آخره وكذا البيهقي: " قال ابن عجلان: وحدثني إياس بن قرة بنحو ذلك "، وقال الضياء: " قال الحاكم (يعني أبا عبد الله) : هذا غريب الإسناد والمتن لا أحفظ له إسنادا غير هذا ". وذكره ابن كثير في " البداية " (٧ / ١٣١) فقال: " وقال عبد الله بن وهب.... " مثل رواية " الضياء " ولفظه: فجعل ينادي: يا سارية الجبل، يا سارية الجبل ثلاثا. ثم قدم رسول الجيش، فسأله عمر، فقال: يا أمير المؤمنين هزمنا، فبينما نحن كذلك إذ سمعنا مناديا: يا سارية الجبل ثلاثا، فأسندنا ظهورنا بالجبل فهزمهم الله. قال: فقيل لعمر: إنك كنت تصيح بذلك. ثم قال ابن كثير: " وهذا إسناد جيد حسن ". وهو كما قال، ثم ذكر له طرقا أخرى وقال: " فهذه طرق يشد بعضها بعضا ". قلت: وفي هذا نظر، فإن أكثر الطرق المشار إليها مدارها على سيف
