this, and a letter dated 7/7/1403 AH came to me from one of the esteemed Saudis in Riyadh, in which he mentioned that the ḥadīth I included in this volume as number (1449) from the narration of al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" is very weak! And that a group of those who follow me (!) in authentication and weakening, and in fiqh derivation, have been impressed by it and started to act upon it! Meaning the addition of: "and His forgiveness" in responding to the salutation, as mentioned in the referred ḥadīth. He attached a large two-sided paper with the letter, explaining his viewpoint on the alleged weakening, and in response to his request, I wrote to him with my opinion on it. His argument can be summarized in four points: first: my statement there: "its narrators are trustworthy from the men of 'al-Tahdhīb' except for Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mukhtār al-Rāzī"; was a slip of the pen on my part because he is from the men of "al-Tahdhīb." Second: that this Ibrāhīm was said by al-Bukhārī: "there is a concern about him," and Ibn Maʿīn said... etc. Third: that above him Hārūn ibn Saʿd was said by Ibn Maʿīn and Abū Ḥātim: there is no harm in him... etc. Fourth: that Muḥammad, the teacher of al-Bukhārī in it, is not Ibn Saʿīd al-Aṣbahānī the trustworthy as I asserted, but rather Ibn Ḥumayd, who is abandoned according to al-Bukhārī himself! So I wrote him a detailed response refuting him, clarifying his error in what he concluded, except for the first point in which he is correct, and therefore I corrected in this edition the phrase: "except for Ibrāhīm..." and made it "and Ibrāhīm..." may Allāh reward him with goodness
