The text of the ḥadīth without the story was recorded by Mālik in "al-Muwaṭṭaʾ" (1/240/49), and from him by al-Nasāʾī (1/292), Ibn Mājah (4271), Aḥmad (3/455), and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (9/156), all from Mālik from al-Zuhrī with a similar narration. Ṣāliḥ and Yūnus also followed him from Ibn Shihāb. It was narrated by Aḥmad (3/455). Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah also followed him. It was narrated by Aḥmad (6/386) and al-Tirmidhī (1/309), who said: "A ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth." Al-Layth ibn Saʿd also followed him. It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (734), and all of them said: "the Muslim" or "the believer," except for Sufyān, who said: "the martyrs," so his narration is anomalous, and Allāh knows best.
ظاهر. ومتن الحديث دون القصة أخرجه مالك في " الموطأ " (١ / ٢٤٠ / ٤٩) وعنه النسائي (١ / ٢٩٢) وابن ماجه (٤٢٧١) وأحمد (٣ / ٤٥٥) وأبو نعيم في " الحلية " (٩ / ١٥٦) كلهم عن مالك عن الزهري به نحوه. وتابعه صالح ويونس عن ابن شهاب. رواه أحمد (٣ / ٤٥٥). وتابعه أيضا سفيان بن عينية. رواه أحمد (٦ / ٣٨٦) والترمذي (١ / ٣٠٩) وقال: " حديث حسن صحيح ". وتابعه الليث بن سعد. عند ابن حبان في " صحيحه " (٧٣٤)، وكلهم قالوا: " المسلم " أو " المؤمن " إلا سفيان، فإنه قال: " الشهداء "، فروايته شاذة والله أعلم.
- "May Allāh curse a people who depict what they do not create." It was narrated by al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" (1/434) through the route of al-Ṭayālisī, and this is in "al-Musnad" (623): Ibn Abī Dhīʾb narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mihrān who said: ʿUmayr, the client of Ibn ʿAbbās, narrated to me from Usāmah ibn Zayd who said: "I entered upon the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in the Kaʿbah and he saw images, so he called for a bucket of water, which I brought to him, and he began to erase them while saying: and he mentioned it."
