similarly, al-Dhahabī said. Al-Tirmidhī stated: "This is a ḥasan gharīb ḥadīth, not strongly supported by anyone other than Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim. This ḥadīth is narrated from al-Zuhrī from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in a mursal form. It has been narrated by Ḥibbān ibn ʿAlī al-ʿAnazī from ʿUqayl from al-Zuhrī from ʿUbayd Allāh from Ibn ʿAbbās from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and it was narrated by al-Layth ibn Saʿd from ʿUqayl from al-Zuhrī from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in a mursal form." I said: Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim is trustworthy, relied upon by the two Shaykhs, and he connected it, which is an addition that must be accepted. It is not harmed by the narration that limits it to al-Zuhrī. Therefore, Ibn al-Qaṭṭān said, as in "al-Fayḍ": "This is not a defect, so its authenticity is more likely." Ḥibbān ibn ʿAlī al-ʿAnazī also followed him in connecting it, as mentioned by al-Tirmidhī. It was connected by Lawīn in "His Ḥadīth" (vol. 2, p. 2): Ḥibbān ibn ʿAlī narrated it to us. Similarly, Ibn ʿAdī connected it (vol. 108, p. 1) through another route from him. Al-Ṭaḥāwī included it in "al-Mushkil" (vol. 1, p. 238) through the route of al-Nasāʾī from him. Al-Dārimī included it (vol. 2, p. 215) as follows: Muḥammad ibn al-Ṣalt narrated to us, Ḥibbān ibn ʿAlī narrated from Yūnus and ʿUqayl from Ibn Shihāb from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh from Ibn ʿAbbās, raised to the Prophet with a similar wording: "And when they reached twelve thousand, they were patient and truthful, and they prevailed despite being few."
