I said: and it is as they both said, its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for al-Barāʾ ibn Nājah, who is trustworthy. The second [narration]: from al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from his father from him, in a marfūʿ form, except for his saying: "I said...". It was recorded by Aḥmad (1/390, 451), Abū Yaʿlá, al-Ṭaḥāwī, Ibn al-Aʿrābī, and Ibn Ḥibbān in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1865 - Mawārid) and al-Khaṭṭābī from various routes from him. I said: and this isnād is also authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, regarding the hearing of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd from his father, with the difference of opinion, and the more likely view to me is that he heard from him, as is explained elsewhere. The third [narration]: from Sharīk from Mujālid from al-Shaʿbī from Masrūq from him. It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī and al-Ṭabarānī (3/72/1). (Benefit) Al-Khaṭīb, may Allāh have mercy on him, said: "His saying (the millstone of Islam will turn) is a metaphor meaning that when this period ends, a significant event will occur in Islam that will cause fear for its people of destruction. It is said of a matter when it changes and transforms: its millstone has turned. This, and Allāh knows best, is a reference to the end of the caliphate period. His saying: (their religion will be established for them) means their kingdom and authority, and religion here means kingdom and authority, as in His saying: * (He could not have taken his brother according to the king's religion) * (Sūrah Yūsuf, 76). The period between the pledge of allegiance to al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī to Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān and the end of the Umayyad rule in the East was about seventy years." Al-Ṭaḥāwī, may Allāh have mercy on him, said: "His saying (after thirty-five, or thirty-six...) is not due to doubt, but it will be as Allāh wills from those years, and Allāh willed that it was in the year..
