the path of Muḥammad ibn ʿAjlān from al-Qaʿqāʿ ibn Ḥakīm from Abū Ṣāliḥ from Abū Hurayrah, attributed [to the Prophet], and al-Tirmidhī said: "This is a ḥasan gharīb ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth," and Abū Nuʿaym said: "It is well-known and established from the ḥadīth of al-Qaʿqāʿ from Abū Ṣāliḥ." I said: And all its narrators are trustworthy except that there is some weakness in the memory of Muḥammad ibn ʿAjlān, and al-Dhahabī said about him: "He is average in memory." Thus, it is a ḥasan ḥadīth, if Allāh wills, and a group, including Ibn Ḥibbān, has authenticated it, as he included numerous ḥadīths from him, including this ḥadīth under number (1613).

- "Indeed, you do not return to Allāh with anything better than what came from Him, meaning the Qurʾān." It was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (2/150): Isḥāq ibn Manṣūr narrated to us, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us from Muʿāwiyah from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Ḥārith from Zayd ibn Arṭāh from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, attributed [to the Prophet] but mursal. I said: And al-Tirmidhī remained silent on it, and al-Bukhārī said in "Afʿāl al-ʿIbād" p. (91): "This report is not authentic due to its being mursal and disconnected." I said: However, it was reported as connected, as al-Ḥākim narrated it (1/555) and from him al-Bayhaqī in "al-Asmāʾ wa-al-Ṣifāt" (236) through the path of Salamah ibn Shabīb, who said: Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal narrated to me, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us from Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Ḥārith from Zayd ibn Arṭāh from Jubayr ibn Nufayr from Abū Dharr al-Ghifārī, attributed [to the Prophet], and al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic isnād," and al-Bayhaqī agreed, and al-Dhahabī concurred
