- "A time will come upon the people when the one who is patient among them regarding his religion will be like one holding onto hot coals." Narrated by al-Tirmidhī (2/42) and Ibn Baṭṭah in "al-Ibānah" (1/173/2) from ʿUmar ibn Shākir from Anas, attributed [to the Prophet]. Al-Tirmidhī said: "This ḥadīth is strange from this perspective, and ʿUmar ibn Shākir is a Basran shaykh from whom more than one scholar has narrated." I say: He is weak as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." However, the ḥadīth is authentic, as it has many supporting narrations: the first is from Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushanī in his ḥadīth with the wording: "For indeed, there will come after you days when patience will be like holding onto hot coals..." the ḥadīth.
