"the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) mentioned the containers: the gourd, the green jar, the pitch-covered vessel, and the hollowed stump. An Arab said: 'We have no containers.' He said: 'Drink what is lawful.' (In another narration) 'Avoid what intoxicates.'" It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (2/132) through the route of Sharīk from Ziyād ibn Fayāḍ from Abū ʿIyāḍ from him. I said: This chain is also weak; Sharīk is Ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who has poor memory. Thus, the ḥadīth, with the combination of the two routes, is ḥasan. And Allāh knows best. Then I found another supporting narration for it, narrated by Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād from Mujāhid from Ibn ʿAbbās, raised to the Prophet with the wording: "Drink from whatever you wish and avoid everything intoxicating." It was recorded by al-Bazzār in "his Musnad" (p. 164 - its additions) and al-Haythamī said: "This is a good chain!" Then I found a better supporting narration than the previous ones, recorded by al-Nasāʾī in "Visiting the Graves" through the route of al-Mughīrah ibn Subayʿ, who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Buraydah narrated to me from his father, raised to the Prophet. "I had forbidden you from eating the meat of sacrificial animals beyond three days..." the ḥadīth is similar to the ḥadīth of ʿAlī and more complete. Its chain is authentic, and its origin is with Muslim. I have included it in "Funerals" (177-178), and Abū ʿUbayd narrated in "al-Gharīb" (71/1) its last part which is with al-Nasāʾī.

- "Leave a pause between your adhān and iqāmah long enough for one in need to relieve himself at leisure and for one eating to finish his meal at leisure." It was narrated from the ḥadīth of Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh, Abū Hurayrah, and Salmān al-Fārisī
