"do not take alms except from these four..." and he mentioned them. Thus, the ḥadīth is authentic due to other supporting evidence. And Allāh knows best.

"Indeed, Allāh despises the eloquent man who moves his tongue like a cow moves its tongue." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (2/314-315), al-Tirmidhī (2/139), and Aḥmad (2/165, 187) from Nāfiʿ ibn ʿUmar from Bishr ibn ʿĀṣim ibn Sufyān from his father from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, and it was raised [to the Prophet]. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥasan, gharīb ḥadīth," and there is also a narration from Saʿd on this topic. I said: It is as al-Tirmidhī said: ḥasan, all its narrators are trustworthy except for ʿĀṣim ibn Sufyān, who is truthful as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." The ḥadīth of Saʿd that al-Tirmidhī referred to has passed with the wording: "There will be people who eat..." under number (419). The ḥadīth has also been narrated in a mursal form, but the connected version is more authentic. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said in "al-ʿIlal" (2/341): "I asked my father about a ḥadīth narrated by Wakīʿ from Nāfiʿ ibn ʿUmar al-Jumaḥī from Bishr ibn ʿĀṣim from his father who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. So I said to my father: Didn't you narrate to us from Abū al-Walīd and Saʿīd ibn Sulaymān from Nāfiʿ ibn ʿUmar from Bishr ibn ʿĀṣim al-Thaqafī from his father from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)? He said: Yes, and he said: Both are authentic, but Wakīʿ shortened it." Meaning that Wakīʿ narrated it in a mursal form, thus shortening it, while Abū al-Walīd and Saʿīd ibn Sulaymān connected it by mentioning Ibn ʿAmr in it, which is the more authentic version.
