from al-Layth ibn Saʿd, from ʿUqayl, from Ibn Shihāb, who said: Abū Salamah and Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib informed me that Abū Hurayrah informed them that he heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: and he mentioned it. It was also recorded by al-Tirmidhī (2/3, Būlāq edition) and Aḥmad (2/241) from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Salamah alone with it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth and the black seed: it is al-shūnīz." Muslim also narrated it from Ibn ʿUyaynah, then he and Aḥmad (2/268, 343) recorded it from Maʿmar, and it is from Shuʿayb, all of them from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Salamah alone. Then he and Aḥmad also recorded it (2/510) from two other routes from Ibn Shihāb, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib alone, from Abū Hurayrah with the wording: "You should use this black seed." It will appear under number (863). It was followed up from Abū Salamah by Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr with the wording: "In the black seed is a cure for every disease except death." They said: "O Messenger of Allāh, what is death?" He said: "Death." Aḥmad recorded it (2/261, 423, 429, 504) from various routes from him. I say: This isnād is ḥasan. The ḥadīth has other routes from Abū Hurayrah and supporting narrations with the wording: "Indeed, this black seed," "There is no disease except in..." Among its supporting narrations is what Aḥmad recorded (6/146) from the route of Ibrāhīm ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Ḥabībah al-Ashhalī, from Dāwūd ibn al-Ḥuṣayn, from al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad, from ʿĀʾishah, raised with this exact wording.
