- "We take your omen from your mouth." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (2/158-159), Aḥmad (2/388), Ibn al-Sunnī (no. 286), and al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Jawharī (folio 28/1) through the chain of narration from Wahīb, from Suhayl ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ, from a man, from Abū Hurayrah, "that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) heard a word that pleased him, so he said it." And he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic except for the man who was not named. However, he has been named, as Abū al-Shaykh recorded it in "Akhlaq al-Nabī (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)" (p. 270) through two other chains from Wahīb with it, except that he said: "from his father," and his father is Abū Ṣāliḥ, whose name is Dhakwān, a trustworthy narrator from the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], so the ḥadīth is authentic, and all praise is due to Allāh. It has a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Kathīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Muzanī, from his father, from his grandfather, with it. It was recorded by Abū al-Shaykh, Ibn al-Sunnī (285), and Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (274/2), who said: "Most of Kathīr's ḥadīths are not corroborated." It was also recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" and "al-Awsaṭ." Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (5/106): "Kathīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh is very weak, but al-Tirmidhī considered his ḥadīth good, and the rest of the narrators are trustworthy." It has another corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar with a similar wording. It was recorded by Abū al-Shaykh from Ḥafṣ ibn ʿAmmār, who informed us from Mubārak ibn Faḍālah, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, from Nāfiʿ, from him. This isnād is weak; Mubārak is weak, and Ḥafṣ ibn ʿAmmār is unknown
