"Ismāʿīl ibn Umayyah, and it is said: ibn Abī Umayyah, narrated from Abū al-Ashhab al-ʿAṭāridī, and he was abandoned by al-Dāraquṭnī." He has a corroborating narration from ʿAlī who said: "There was a female circumciser in Medina, so the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sent for her: ..." and mentioned it. It was recorded by al-Khaṭīb (12/291) through the route of ʿAwf ibn Muḥammad Abū Ghasān, who narrated to us from Abū Taghlib ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Anṣārī, who narrated to us from Misʿar, from ʿUrwah ibn Murrah, from Abū al-Bakhtarī, from him. He mentioned it in the biography of this ʿAwf and said about Ibn Mandah: "ʿAmr ibn ʿAlī and Bundār narrated from him," and he did not mention any criticism or endorsement. As for Abū Taghlib, I did not find a biography for him. The rest of the narrators are known and trustworthy, from the narrators of "al-Tahdhīb," but Abū al-Bakhtarī did not hear anything from ʿAlī, and his name is Saʿīd ibn Fayrūz. There is another corroborating narration, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Qays who said: "Umm ʿAṭiyyah was a female circumciser in Medina, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said..." and mentioned it. It was recorded by Ibn ʿAsākir in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (8/206/1) from Abū Umayyah al-Ṭarsūsī, who informed us from Manṣūr ibn Ṣaqīr, who informed us from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr, from him. And he said: "Abū al-Ṭayyib mentioned that this al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Qays is someone other than al-Fahīrī."
