and al-Khaṭīb in "al-Faqīh wa-al-Mutafaqqih" (225/2) from the route of Falyāḥ ibn Sulaymān from Ayyūb ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ṣaʿṣaʿah al-Anṣārī from Yaʿqūb ibn Abī Yaʿqūb from Umm al-Mundhir bint Qays al-Anṣārīyah who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) entered upon me with ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), and ʿAlī was recovering, and we had clusters of dates hanging. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) stood up to eat from them, and ʿAlī stood up to eat, but the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) began to say to ʿAlī: 'Stop, you are recovering,' until ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) refrained. She said: 'I prepared barley and chard, and brought it, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: so he mentioned it.'" al-Tirmidhī said: "A good and rare ḥadīth, we do not know it except from the narration of Falyāḥ." I said: It is disputed, and a group has weakened it, while some have considered it acceptable, and the two Shaykhs used it as evidence in their "Ṣaḥīḥayn." The preferred view with us is that he is truthful in himself and that he occasionally errs, so his ḥadīth is good, if Allāh wills, as long as his error is not evident. al-Ḥākim has also included this ḥadīth in "al-Mustadrak" (4/407) and said: "Its isnād is authentic." al-Dhahabī agreed with him. However, it is only good as al-Tirmidhī said. And Allāh knows best. Ibn al-Qayyim (raḥimahu Allāh) said in "Zād al-Maʿād" (3/97) after mentioning the ḥadīth: "Know that the Prophet's (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) prevention of ʿAlī from eating the clusters while he was recovering is the best management, for the clusters are like bunches of grapes hung in the house for eating, and fruit harms the recovering patient due to its rapid transformation and the weakness of the body in repelling it, as its strength has not yet been fully restored, and it is occupied with repelling the effects of the ailment and removing it from the body, and in the fresh dates..
