"I command you with three things and forbid you from three. I command you to worship Allāh and not associate anything with Him, to hold fast to the rope of Allāh together and not to be divided, and to obey those whom Allāh has placed in authority over you. And I forbid you from gossip, excessive questioning, and wasting wealth." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (1543) through the chain of ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith, who reported from Bukayr, who reported from Suhayl ibn Dhakwān, who reported from his father, who reported from Abū Hurayrah from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), who said it. I say: This isnād is authentic according to the conditions of Muslim, and it was also recorded by him (5/130) and likewise by Aḥmad (2/327, 360, 367) through other chains from Suhayl with similar wording. The ḥadīth is also attributed in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Kabīr" (1/3/2) to Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah," but I did not see it in its index. And Allāh knows best,
