I said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ has some weakness in his memory, so his contradiction is not considered. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb also contradicted him regarding Muʿāwiyah, saying: "ʿAmrah" instead of "al-Qāsim." It was reported by Ibn Ḥibbān in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (2136) and Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (8/331) through two chains from him with it. Abū Nuʿaym said: "al-Layth ibn Saʿd narrated from Muʿāwiyah similarly." I said: In his narration, it is "al-Qāsim" instead of "ʿAmrah" as previously mentioned, so perhaps what Abū Nuʿaym mentioned is a narration that occurred to him from al-Layth. Then he said: "There was a difference regarding Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd; Yaḥyá ibn Ayyūb narrated from Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd from Ḥumayd ibn Qays from Mujāhid from ʿĀʾishah. Ibn Jurayj narrated from Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd from Mujāhid from ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā), without mentioning Ḥumayd." I said: The most authentic narrations, in my view, are those of al-Layth and Ibn Wahb because they are reliable and meticulous narrators. I cannot determine which of their narrations is more authentic, unless it is proven that al-Layth narrated it once like the narration of Ibn Wahb from ʿAmrah as Abū Nuʿaym mentioned. In that case, this narration is more authentic due to their agreement on it. In any case, this difference does not affect the authenticity of the ḥadīth because both al-Qāsim and ʿAmrah are trustworthy, so it is a transition from one trustworthy person to another. Therefore, the difference in this matter does not harm the authenticity of the ḥadīth. And Allāh knows best.
