Abū Qurrah reported to us from Sulaymān ibn Bilāl: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Ḥurah narrated to me from his uncle Ḥakīm ibn Ḥurah from Sulaymān al-Agharr from him with it. I said: This is a good isnād, all its men are trustworthy, and there is some talk about ʿUbayd ibn Abī Qurrah that does not harm. Sulaymān ibn Bilāl is a trustworthy narrator from the two Shaykhs, but he was contradicted as ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad al-Darāwardī narrated from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Ḥurah from his uncle Ḥakīm ibn Abī Ḥurah from Sinān ibn Sunah al-Aslamī, a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, and he mentioned something similar. It was recorded by al-Dārimī (2/95), Ibn Mājah (1765), and Aḥmad (4/343), as well as his son ʿAbdullāh and al-Qudāʿī in "Musnad al-Shihāb" (17/1) through various routes from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz with it. Al-Būṣīrī said in "Zawāʾid Ibn Mājah": "Its isnād is authentic." I said: It is as he said, except for the mentioned contradiction, and Sulaymān is more reliable than ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, so his narration is more authentic if Abū Qurrah preserved it from him. However, the ḥadīth is authentic in any case, because the difference in the name of the Companion of the ḥadīth does not harm as is apparent, and al-Dārimī added in his isnād "from his father," making the ḥadīth in his view from the narration of "Sunnah," the father of Sinān, which is objectionable because it was uniquely reported by Nuʿaym ibn Ḥammād who is weak, especially since he was contradicted by those previously mentioned, and the author of "Mishkāt" (4206) also attributed this narration to Ibn Mājah, which is an error. And Allāh, the Exalted, knows best. Then I saw that the ḥadīth was also recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr" (1/1/142-143) from both perspectives: from Sulaymān ibn Bilāl and ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad, and Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned them in "al-ʿIlal" (2/13-14) and said: "It was said to Abū Zurʿah, which of them is more authentic? He said: The ḥadīth of al-Darāwardī is more likely." Thus he said, and Allāh knows best
