from the route of Abū Wāʾil, from Abū Nukhaylah al-Bajalī, who said: Jarrīr said: "I came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while he was taking pledges. I said: O Messenger of Allāh, extend your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you, and stipulate upon me as you see fit, for you are more knowledgeable." He mentioned it. I said: And this isnād is authentic. Abū Nukhaylah is with a dotted khāʾ, and it is also said without the dot, and Ibrāhīm al-Ḥarbī confirmed it, saying: He is a righteous man. More than one person has confirmed his companionship, as clarified by al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Iṣābah." This ḥadīth has a corroborating narration from a Bedouin, and it comes with the wording: "Indeed, if you testify..." The ḥadīth was also recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (vol. 1, folio 111, side 1) from the route of Abū Wāʾil. The last part of it has been narrated through another route from Jarrīr with the wording: "I am free from every Muslim who resides among the polytheists." They said: O Messenger of Allāh, why? He said: "Their fires should not be visible to each other." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (2/397): Ḥannād narrated to us: Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim from Jarrīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh: that the Messenger of Allāh sent a detachment to Khathʿam, and some people sought refuge in prostration, but they were swiftly killed. This reached the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he ordered them half the blood money and said... He mentioned it. Then al-Tirmidhī said: Ḥannād narrated to us: ʿAbdah narrated to us from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid from Qays ibn
