- "Three things are not to be refused: cushions, oil, and milk." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (2/130), and from him by al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (3/112/2), Abū al-Shaykh in "Ṭabaqāt al-Muḥaddithīn" (p. 185), Bishr ibn Maṭar in "Ḥadīth" (3/89/1), Ibn Ḥibbān in "al-Thiqāt" (1/10), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (3/196/1), and Abū Nuʿaym in "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (1/99) through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muslim from his father from Ibn ʿUmar who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it, and he mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "It is a strange ḥadīth, and ʿAbd Allāh is Ibn Muslim ibn Jundub, and he is from Medina." I say: It seems that his condition was hidden from al-Tirmidhī, and that is why he considered his ḥadīth strange. Others have recognized him, as Ibn Abī Ḥātim said in his book (2/2/165): "Abū Zurʿah was asked about him, and he said: A Medinan, there is no harm in him." Similarly, al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb." Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (2/159), and al-ʿAjlī said: "A trustworthy Medinan." Al-Dhahabī said: "I know of no one who criticized him." As for his father, he is more famous than him. Ibn Ḥibbān said in "al-Thiqāt" (1/213): "He narrates from Ibn ʿUmar, and he was the judge of Medina. Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī and others narrated from him. He died in the year 106."
