"Whoever cuts down a lote tree, Allāh will direct his head into the Fire (meaning from the lote trees of the sanctuary)." Narrated by Abū Dāwūd (5239), al-Nasāʾī in "al-Siyar" (2/43/2), al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (4/119, 120), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (1/123/1), and from him al-Ḍiyāʾ al-Maqdisī in "al-Aḥādīth al-Mukhtārah" (56/136/3), and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan al-Kubrā" (6/139) through various chains from Ibn Jurayj from ʿUthmān ibn Abī Sulaymān from Saʿīd ibn Muḥammad ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥubshī who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Al-Ṭabarānī said—and this addition is his: "It is not narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥubshī except through this isnād, and Ibn Jurayj is alone in narrating it." I say: Its narrators are trustworthy, and the isnād is good except that it contains the ʿanʿanah of Ibn Jurayj, although he explicitly stated hearing from ʿUthmān ibn Abī Sulaymān in another ḥadīth of his, which was narrated by Aḥmad (3/411-412) and al-Ḍiyāʾ, and Allāh knows best. Maʿmar differed in his isnād, saying: from ʿUthmān ibn Abī Sulaymān from a man from Thaqīf from ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, raising the ḥadīth to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) similarly.
