- "He was standing and praying in his house, when a man came and peered into his house. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) took an arrow from his quiver and aimed it at his eyes until he turned away." This was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (1069), Aḥmad (3/191), and Abū al-Qāsim al-Baghawī in "Ḥadīth Hudbah" (no. 80) through the route of Ḥammād ibn Salamah who reported from Isḥāq ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Ṭalḥah from Anas that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was... I said: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim. It was also recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Diyāt" and Aḥmad (3/125/178) through the route of Ḥumayd from Anas in a shortened form similar to it, and in Aḥmad's version—its isnād is three-tiered: "The man withdrew his head." It was also recorded by Muslim (6/181) and others through another route from Anas in a similar manner, and neither he nor al-Bukhārī mentioned the prayer, contrary to what is suggested by the commentary of Muḥammad Fuʾād ʿAbd al-Bāqī and likewise the words of its esteemed commentator.
- "It is not appropriate for a believer to humiliate himself." They said: "How does he humiliate himself?" He said: "By exposing himself to a trial he cannot bear." This was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (2/41 - Būlāq), Ibn Mājah (4016), and Aḥmad (5/405) from ʿAlī ibn Zayd from al-Ḥasan from Jundub from Ḥudhayfah as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. He said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan gharīb." I said: ʿAlī ibn Zayd is Ibn Judʿān, and he is weak, and al-Ḥasan is al-Baṣrī, and he is a mudallis who narrated with ʿanʿanah. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said in "al-ʿIlal" (2/138) from his father:
